VAUGHAN, ON — The Ontario Soccer Association’s U13 Boys Regional Programs are preparing their final teams to compete in the Fall U14 Provincial Identification Matches beginning on September 30th and wrapping up on the October 2nd at the Ontario Soccer Centre in Vaughan.
The Girls games took place last weekend from September 23rd to the 25th.
The Regional Coaches have been working with their Player pool since October / November of 2010 in preparation for the weekend’s matches where the Players will be scouted by the Provincial and other Regional Coaches to identify the strongest candidates to move on into the first phase of selections for the U14 Provincial Program.
Historically, 40 to 50 players will be identified after the weekend’s games to move on into the next phase of try-outs beginning in October.
The Provincial Coaching Staff will pare the numbers down to 28-30 players by mid-November and then will continue to develop them through to the end of April.
The Provincial Team will travel in March to compete internationally and they will finish off in April with games against the Quebec Federation’s U14 Provincial Team.
In June/July the U14 Quebec and Ontario Teams will compete again at the CSA mandated Regional All-Star Championships.
Both the Female and Male Games are held in memory of former Region 5 Head Coach, Mark Hearn, who passed away in December 2007 after a long-term battle with cancer.
