OSA Unveils Female Mentorship Pilot Program Initiative: Applications Now Being Accepted

Applications Now Being Accepted:
OSA Unveils Female Mentorship Pilot Program Initiative

The Ontario Soccer Association is embarking on a path to ensure that we support and develop our female coaches to help them achieve their goals in the sport.

With that in mind, we have developed a new Female Mentorship Program, designed to train senior female coaches who in turn will act as educators as well as mentors to other female coaches who wish to further develop and progress their careers.  This will be part of a holistic support system approach to enabling promising coaches across the province to reach their potential in the coaching field.

We aim to retain and enhance our female coaching staff and to create an improved female coaching culture.

Responsibilities:  What are we looking for?

• We are seeking one female coach who will take on the position and act as the OSA’s Female Head Mentor coach.  This individual will hold a minimum National B license.

• The selected candidate will oversee and actively manage this new program. The Female Head Mentor coach will ensure that aspiring female coaches fulfill their responsibilities and commitments, while also ensuring that The OSA lives up to its objectives as well.

• The Female Head Mentor coach will have the ability to offer professional guidance and support, while also providing detailed feedback to the coaches under their care, both verbally and in writing.

• The Female Head Mentor coach will be responsible for preparing Ontario’s Female coaches for Provincial B and National B license courses.

• The successful candidate will be available to attend games and observation sessions and to be present at all on-field sessions delivered by their coaches.

Also

• We are seeking four female coaches who already are progressing toward their Provincial B or National B level, or are working progressively toward these licenses.

• These four will be selected based on their experience, potential, and the recommendations supporting their application.

• The selected applicants will be developed in our OSA mentoring program under the guidance of the Female Head Mentor coach.

• These coaches will eventually be able to step into a coaching leadership role as they attain their Provincial B or National B license.

Expected outcomes

• Our Female Head Mentor coach (and those they support) will be developed for two pathways—the Player Development Pathway and/or the Coaching Development/Learning Facilitator pathway.

• Our Female Mentor Head coach will become part of coaching staff at National All-Star competitions, while also taking on responsibilities with our Regional Camp staff.

• If they choose, our Mentor coaches will have the option of travelling internationally with our Provincial teams.

• Our Mentor coaches will gain invaluable experience working in the Provincial environment and in the area of Player development and Coaching education.

• Commitment to the OSA programs following the mentorship

Our Female Mentorship coaching program is a very important OSA initiative.  We are committed to creating a strong, professional and successful program that will respond to the needs and aspirations of the many outstanding women coaches that we already have in our province, and the many more who will join our coaching programs in the years ahead.

This is one more component of our commitment to Long-Term Player Development (LTPD) under the guidance of the Canadian Soccer Association, and we look forward to seeing these programs deliver tremendous results in the months and years ahead.
