Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has finally signed a new deal with the club which will see him at the helm until 2017.
The Barclays Premier League winner had been linked with the vacant job as Russia boss, as a new City deal took its time to be agreed.
But Mancini has finally put pen to paper on a five-year contract to commit his long-term future to the current champions.
The Italian said: 'I am delighted to be able to give all of my efforts to Manchester City for a further five years.
'The opportunity which exists to build on our recent success is enormous. Manchester City is a fantastic football club, from the owner, chairman, board and the executive team, through to the players, staff and fans.
'I am very much looking forward to the challenges and excitement ahead.'
The club's interim chief executive officer, John MacBeath, added: 'Roberto’s managerial credentials have been well proven in Europe for many years and in leading a team which has won the FA Cup and an unforgettable Barclays Premier League title in successive seasons, his ability to manage in the English domestic game is also undisputed.
The club announced the news on their website, saying they were 'pleased to announce that a new contract has been agreed with manager Roberto Mancini.'
The statement continued: 'The deal, which runs until the summer of 2017, follows the club’s most successful season in more than four decades, which concluded in the most dramatic of circumstances in the team’s thrilling 3-2 win over Queens Park Rangers in May this year.
'Agreement was reached after, in line with club policy, discussions began as the season closed.'
Mancini oversaw City's 2011-12 Premier League triumph, winning the title in thrilling fashion on a topsy-turvy final day.
His side edged out bitter rivals Manchester United at the top of the table by beating QPR, with a late Sergio Aguero goal sealing the deal.
It was City's first league title for 44 years, and Mancini had already ended a 35-year trophy drought by winning the FA Cup in his first full season.
City beat rivals United in a tense semi-final before overcoming Stoke to win the trophy.
Mancini took over from current QPR manager Mark Hughes in December 2009 and has won the hearts of City fans with his success and affable demeanor.
The former Inter Milan manager's next challenge as City boss appears to be finding a way to take Arsenal's star striker, Robin van Persie, from the Emirates to the Etihad.
After that, a successful defense of his title as well as a better showing in the Champions League will be the main targets.
City were knocked out in the group stages of Europe's top competition last season, with Bayern Munich and Napoli progressing.
