CANADIAN SOCCER ASSOCIATION's Call for nominations: seeking candidates for Board of Directors

The Nominations Committee (“Committee”) of the Canadian Soccer Association Board of Directors (“Board”) calls for individuals to submit names of candidates to serve on the Board commencing May 2013.
The Committee is seeking qualified candidates to play a role in the stewardship of an organization in transition to a new culture that reflects values such as engagement, transparency, accountability, and other attributes representing leading edge governance.
Qualified candidates will have the skill-sets, expertise and experience necessary to help create a new national vision for soccer in Canada, leading to a legacy of success on and off the playing field.

Board Composition

The Canadian Soccer Association Board of Directors consists of 14 Directors, including a President, Vice President, six (6) elected Directors, and six (6) appointed or independent Directors.
The current call for nominations is for the following Board positions:
Four (4) appointed directors
  • 2 Directors for a 3-year term
  • 1 Director for a 2 year term
  • 1 Director for a 1 year term

Board Composition Requirements

  1. The Board of Directors must include:
  • At least three (3) qualified individuals of each gender (one female currently in place);
  • One (1) current or former athlete (one currently in place);
  • One (1) individual currently involved in professional soccer in an administrative capacity (one currently in place)
  1. Members of the Nominations Committee cannot be candidates for any 2013 new positions on the Board.

Requirements for Nominations for Appointed Director

  1. Nominations for appointed Director may be submitted by any organization or individual, and they must be seconded.
  2. Candidates for appointed Director shall be required to provide an updated résumé (max 3 pages) detailing their skill-sets and, in particular, any of the following areas: Audit and Finance, Governance, Nominations, Risk Management and International Relations, in which they have practical experience, as well as their experience with the sport of soccer. Candidates for appointed Director will be required to attest to their independence from the sport of soccer, be it at the provincial, territorial, national, or international level.
  3. The deadline for the receipt of nominations is 18.00 ET on Friday, 17 May 2013.
