TORONTO, August 4, 2011.- Watching soccer is a great pleasure, and more when the game is played with full passion, speed and technique. Last week at Toronto Central Soccer League, we got all of those elements and more, especially when the standings were so tight at that time: Genesis, the leader, 18 points, and Flames, the second place, with 16. So any team that missed to score, would ended up with a big surprise.
The Thursday July 28 at Earlscourt started with a triumph 3-0 by now light blue team Majestic over Ballers. The second place Toronto Flames FC was surprised with a goal by Bulldogs at the minute 1, and then it was difficult to get back on the score. Tanisha, the sweper defender, was tough to pass and in attack they had Kareen and Cross, who ended up with a new sub-luxation in her right arm.
With Charlotte, Jamie, Madison, Judy, Sarah, and all the white team pushing, again in a speedy counter-attack the Flames were now 0-0 and with a lot of opportunities to score that were saved by improvised goalkeeper Danielle Wedge. Madison went to the middlefield and some fierce football was played, but even tough was great soccer, it was not enough to shorter the score or try to tie.
The last game of the night had a self-sure Genesis, but Thunder was difficult to keep up with both Michelle (Liu, # 8, and the forward # 9) creating trouble to the black shirt teams. # 31 Leslie and # 5 Isabel tried to manage the ball with great techniques, but they had always a defender breathing in their necks or going strong to gain the divided balls. It was fast Chai Valente who scored first for Genesis, but Michelle (The Italian striker) who tied the game 1-1 and it could ended up like that. But in extra time, Julieta scored a desperate goal to finish 2-1 and now Genesis alone with 21 points.
Today schedule, August 4 at Earlscourt Park grass field and Eglinton Flats:
