CANADIAN SOCCER: Soccer and Settlement gets underway in Ottawa

The Ontario Soccer Association has launched a groundbreaking project in Ottawa under the banner ‘Soccer and Settlement’. The project is aimed at facilitating the integration of New Canadians’ through soccer by connecting them with sanctioned soccer in the province and promote the sport as a healthy lifestyle.
The project is made-up of four main components: Coach and Referee Education, Community Days, Soccer in School and Play ‘n’ Learn programs which consist of one hour sessions combining 30 minutes of play and 30 minutes of learning about Canada’s heritage and culture.

Look out for more details in the upcoming Club Development Newsletter Issue 2 of the Ontario Soccer Association.

The Soccer and Settlement project has been building steadily in Ottawa over the past two months. Since hiring Javier Clavelo and Audra Sherman numerous contacts have been made with soccer and community groups alike. The first tentative dates are being established for events so look out for those. A community specific flyer has also been created in 4 languages and will be on the streets of Ottawa soon. For those of you who would like to take advantage of this flyer in your community check back to the OSA website over the coming weeks.
