CANADA'S WOMEN SOCCER 2013: Christine Sinclair inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame

In a sequence of decorated months since London 2012– it has become almost routine for Christine Sinclair to accept the very highest of awards and recognition that Canada has to offer – but Tuesday marked another very special moment in the Canadian captain’s career.
Sinclair was inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame.
Canada’s all-time women’s leading goal-scorer was named as one of eight inductees to the Walk of Fame for 2013 alongside Bob Ezrin, Terry Fox, Victor Garber, Craig Kielburger, Marc Kielburger, Oscar Peterson and Alan Thicke.
The 2013 inductees will receive their tribute on Saturday 21 September at Toronto’s Elgin Theatre. The Canada’s Walk of Fame televised Awards show will be broadcast nationally in the fall.
In being inducted – Sinclair becomes the first soccer player, male or female, to be named to the prestigious list of notable Canadians.
She will become the fourth female Lou Marsh Trophy winner to be inducted on Canada’s Walk of Fame.
Both athletes in this year’s class – Terry Fox and Sinclair – are Lou Marsh Trophy winners

Sinclair is currently leading the national team on the road to the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015, the world’s biggest women’s football tournament that will be played from coast to coast across Canada from 6 June to 5 July 2015.

Canada's women's national team wrapped up a five-day camp in Paderborn, Germany on Wednesday 19 June, falling 0:1 to their hosts in a 2013 Women's International Friendly match. Goalkeeper Erin McLeod earned Canada's footballer of the match honours in the away international played at Benteler Arena.
"I think there were some real positives in there today," said Canadian head coach John Herdman. "Defensively, we were able to hold them and there was some real resilience from the girls."
The Canadian team had 19 players in camp, with the maximum 17 featured in the international match. Starter Mélissa Busque and substitute Rachel Melhado both made their debuts in Canada colours. Substitute Danica Wu made her second appearance.
"We'll keep working. There is still some time left to catch these Germans. All in all, we had some good lessons. I am proud of the girls today."
Canada's footballers will now return to their professional and elite clubs to finish out there seasons before regrouping in the fall. Canada's next home match is 30 October in Edmonton, AB against Korea Republic.
