SOCCER MUNDIAL NETWORK: WOMEN'S SOCCER: Canada continue with perfect record at Cyprus Cup

Christine Sinclair scored the winner while Erin McLeod performed some heroics in goal as Canada defeated the Netherlands 1:0 to complete it’s three-match group-stage at the 2013 Cyprus Women’s Cup with a perfect record on Monday 11 March at the GSP Stadium in Nicosia, Cyprus.
McLeod saved a penalty in the early going and made an acrobatic save in injury time.
Sinclair scored from long range in the 42^nd minute.
The Netherlands had the best chance of the match’s opening stages when they were awarded a penalty after Carmelina Moscato was deemed to have brought down an attacker in the area.
Lieke Martens struck the penalty low and hard but McLeod sprawled to her left to make the save at full-stretch.
Sinclair punished the Dutch for their miss later in the half.
Jonelle Filigno intercepted a pass in the attacking zone and laid it off for the onrushing Sinclair who cut inside and dispatched a vintage placement strike into the bottom left corner from 25 yards in the 42^nd minute to give Canada the 1:0 lead.
The second half unfolded with limited chances until the dying stages of the game.
Netherlands’ best chance at an equalizer came in injury time when Sherida Spitse hit a half-volley from 28 yards – the effort forced an acrobatic tip over the bar from McLeod to preserve the win for Canada.
Canada started the match with Erin McLeod in goal; Robyn Gayle, Emily Zurrer, Carmelina Moscato and Chelsea Stewart across the back-line; Desiree Scott, Kaylyn Kyle and Diana Matheson in midfield; and Adriana Leon, Jonelle Filigno and Christine Sinclair (c) across the attacking line.
Sophie Schmidt and Kadeisha Buchanan entered in place of Desiree Scott and Carmelina Moscato at half-time. Christina Julien subbed in for Adriane Leon in the 57^th minute. Christable Oduro replaced Jonelle Filigno in the 67^th minute. Ashley Lawrence replaced Diana Matheson in the 75^th minute. Brittany Timko subbed in for Sophie Schmidt in the 79^th minute.
Netherlands started the match with Loes Geurts in goal; and Dyanna Bito, Mandy vd Berg, Claudi vd Heiligenberg, Sherida Spitse, Manon Melis, Danielle de Ridder, Maslous Pieete, Like Marterns and Anouk Dekker across the starting XI.
The match was attended by 50 observers at the GSP Stadium in Nicosia.
